Are you trying to work on your book but keep getting distracted by the latest cat videos?
Do you find yourself writing only when you feel "motivated" or "inspired"?
Has your manuscript been stuck on Chapter One since 2002?
This is where a book coach can get you and your book into shape. It's the less-costly alternative to ghostwriting.
With a book coach, you do the writing yourself while your coach provides structure, guidance, accountability, and an editorial eye. You get honest feedback as you go along so you'll always know if you're on the right track. This eliminates doubt, validates your ideas, and prevents procrastination!
What to Expect
The book coaching service typically runs 6 months to a year. It takes some people 6-7 months to write a book, others a little longer. It depends on how far along you are when we begin. You are free to stop the service at any time.
First, we have an introductory chat where we discuss your big picture ideas and your goals for your book. If you are starting from scratch, we will schedule subsequent interviews to brainstorm and organize your topics so you have a solid foundation to start your writing.
Every week, you will send me ten pages (around 3,000 words). This may seem like a lot if you don't consider yourself a "writer," but once you start writing about a topic you care about it's easy to fill up ten pages. It doesn't have to be perfect; it's just the first draft!
We will meet (or Skype, Zoom, etc.) twice a week to go over your drafts. Each session is 90 minutes, so a total of 3 hours a week. We can spend our sessions any number of ways: you can write with me by your side in real time, we can delve into any ideas you have, or you can ask me anything about writing or publishing. These sessions are meant to be a casual yet productive way to keep you on track and move your manuscript forward.
I will send back your drafts each week with my own commentary. No editing yet (that's for later). Just my comments and feedback.
When your manuscript is complete, we'll start the second phase: line editing. I will edit your manuscript chapter by chapter, and we will go over the edits during our sessions. Line editing is focused on turning your manuscript into an engaging narrative for the reader, so we want to make sure your words have the desired impact!
After line editing is complete, we discuss your publishing options (traditional, self publish, or hybrid) and I can point you in the direction of a trusted vendor to handle your publishing needs. At this stage, you have the option to add-on a book proposal or self-publisher's roadmap as part of the coaching package. See below for pricing.
The book coaching package ranges from $500 to $800 per month (pricing depends on the scope of your project and how far along you are when we begin working together).
Payment is month by month, and you may opt out at any time.
What's included in the coaching package:
Twice weekly one-on-one sessions to discuss your progress
Written feedback on your drafts
Line editing services
Add-ons: Book proposal or self-publisher's roadmap—50% off the standalone price
I will be happy to create a book proposal or self-publisher's roadmap for you as part of the coaching package. Book proposals cost an additional $5,000 and self-publisher's roadmaps are $2,500. This is an optional service and you will not be charged for this until you decide to include it as an add-on.
